I like comfortable shoes. I am a pro Dansko, I am full of Birkenstocks, even though my feet are sweating from crocodile, but I see you, Ariana, I am jealous. In summer, I often go in and out of Birkenstock Arizona EVA sandals. Few shoes are more convenient and comfortable (and cool). Go to the store? Throw it on my sandals. In the 2 million small plate restaurants in Los Angeles, what do you drink at the last minute? Throw it on my sandals. Frances McDormand even wore Birk sandals to the Oscars (although it was the pair created by Valentino), because she clearly knew that standing in comfortable shoes for hours is better than standing on heels. When I moved to Los Angeles, I thought I would wear sandals all year round. But I was wrong. It’s cold here! (I hear every reader of The New Yorker roll his eyes while reading this article.) Of course, it doesn’t make Sorel boots cold, but it is cold enough that I have to retire Birkenstock sandals. I can summon them to wear some cute socks until the Mid-Autumn Festival, but November is here, which is farewell to my favorite comfortable and convenient footwear. Still I think.
Last January, Subu’s “winter sandals” walked into the shop of Akomeya, a Goop-approved store near Chao Street in Tokyo, and entered my life. The store is full of wonderful gifts that can be taken home to lucky friends and family, such as beautifully wrapped rice, bamboo ear spoons or unneeded Fuji mountain tea towels. My boyfriend loves household shoes. He first discovered Subus in Akomeya’s selected works. (He is my boyfriend and he has a reason!) Although they are technically slippers in terms of design and appearance, Subus is not limited to this, and should be used in towns or at least nearby. This is why the brand and I prefer to call them winter sandals. The Tokyo-based company has its roots in a long Japanese tradition of taking off your shoes when entering the house. In the warmer months, this means that sandals are not a popular choice for footwear, because no one wants to bring a garbage bag every time, a lace dog or wear sneakers when meeting the server at the front door. But Tokyo gets colder in winter, so the company has developed shoes that work as easily as sandals while providing comfort (and warmth) in cool weather.
The best way to describe the appearance of Subus is to put on the puffer jacket on your feet. For brands that are known for making actual winter gear (such as Northface and Teva), their shoes don’t look strange. To me, Subus is as cool as some Crocs, perhaps because of its Japanese DNA. Compared with the styles of other brands, they are less tactile and have more technical design details. Nonetheless, Subus still has the features you want in casual winter footwear, including strong rubber soles, Teflon coating that repels water and dries quickly, down-filling, and a fleece-lined lining can also hold moisture Drain away from my sweaty feet to keep dry. The brand describes the shoes as “designed to wrap your feet in warm pockets”, and to me, this is roughly how they feel-like each of my feet is tucked into my Casper mattress The same as under the comfortable blanket. Now that I have seen the outdoor shopping malls in Los Angeles are ready for Christmas, I find myself thinking and pursuing Subus. Like my Birks, I wear them in T-shirts and jeans and travel to the grocery store or yoga class. Recently, I took them for a drive to have dinner with closer friends. I was a little unconscious when I was wearing them to a party, but when I walked in, a friend asked, “What is that?” Before I could even speak, she went on: “Can I try them on? ?”
Are they as smooth as my Arizona EVA? Do not. If I wear them on days that are not too cold, they will overheat my feet. (Those who live in colder climates may not think this is a big problem.) Nevertheless, I am always looking for new opportunities to wear Subus, and can’t wait to appear on the scene will definitely attract the attention of all other actors in Uggs. (Hollywood’s standard winter sandals, at least based on my working hours and other jobs on Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.) Ariana can keep their Crocs, Dakota Johnson and Zendaya are their Uggs. For me, I am a very good person and also very comfortable.
The grommet sells male and female Subus in gray, black and red. It says the size is small, so be sure to refer to its size information when ordering. In addition to the Amazon selling pairs linked above, the site also offers some other Subus options, including the yellow pair and the pair in the Comme des Garçons-style dot print, but Prime does not.
